This year was even more special in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday. Gracious hosts Lynn and Rod Eisener provided the delicious food and beverages (and cake!), musical entertainment, face-painting for kids (of all ages), and some fabulous door prizes. In spite of the rainy start to the event, with people huddling under the rain canopies that were thoughtfully provided, the many attendees enjoyed the warmth, energy, and spirits of the gathering at this beautiful inn located at 9757 Main Street in the heart of Canning Village. The Village’s town crier, Gary Long, gave a stirring speech commemorating Canada’s birthday, and presided over the festivities, announcing prize winners.
The newest business in town, i scream Ice Cream Shop, at its charming, renovated 9838 Main Street location, celebrated the day with its deliciously refreshing and colourful “Parliament Chill” special treat, available only on Canada Day. The rich vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberry special made for a very Canadian colour scheme and a yummy combination.
Crystany’s Brasserie (the first certified gluten-free restaurant in Annapolis Valley), featured a fabulous, festive menu and a special evening performance by renowned harpist and recording artist, Johanne McInnis. With its beautiful, cosy interior and fabulous second-storey patio terrace offering a scenic view of the Habitant River and lush countryside, Crystany’s attracted many delighted diners to its 9848 Main Street address.
Every year, the Village of Canning’s celebrations just keep getting better and better. Hope to see you at the Annual Picnic in the Park, our next big, public celebration event on Sunday, August 27, from 1 – 4 PM at Bruce Spicer Park — have a wonderful, safe, and fun summer!
