Chef Michael Williams – Crystany’s Brasserie
Michael Williams, chef of Crystany’s Brasserie in Canning, Nova Scotia, was recently recognised for his achievements at the annual ApEx Event held at the Halifax Casino, March 27, 2017. He received the prestigious Chef of the Year – Independent Food Service Award for the Atlantic Provinces.
ApEx is known as “Canada’s Premier Foodservice and Hospitality Event.” It brings together a very wide range of representatives from the food and beverage industry, from chefs and line cooks to caterers and restaurant owners and operators. The giant exhibition takes time to also acknowledge the accomplishments of notable people in the industry, like Williams.
Williams is an accomplished young chef and graduate of the Culinary Arts Program at NSCC. Originally from Jackson, Tennessee, he’s honed his professional skills in Bridgewater, Lunenburg, and Halifax, and has been calling Nova Scotia his permanent home for years. Now he’s the chef of Nova Scotia’s first entirely gluten-free dining establishment, Crystany’s Brasserie, which he operates with his partner, Brittany Maxner. His skills at preparing magnificent gluten-free dishes has gained a lot of admiration and appreciation by gluten-intolerant and regular patrons alike.
In response to his receipt of the coveted award, Williams remarked “I’m super happy to be given such a high honour, but that doesn’t mean I’m done; it just means I’ve got to strive to be even better.”
