Canada Day festivities in Canning

So much fun and activity this year at Canning’s Farmhouse Inn B&B‘s Annual Canada Day celebration,  Crystany’s Brasserie, and ice cream emporium, i scream Ice Cream Shop!

This year was even more special in honour of Canada’s 150th birthday. Gracious hosts Lynn and Rod Eisener provided the delicious food and beverages (and cake!), musical entertainment, face-painting for kids (of all ages), and some fabulous door prizes. In spite of the rainy start to the event, with people huddling under the rain canopies that were thoughtfully provided, the many attendees enjoyed the warmth, energy, and spirits of the gathering at this beautiful inn located at 9757 Main Street in the heart of Canning Village. The Village’s town crier, Gary Long, gave a stirring speech commemorating Canada’s birthday, and presided over the festivities, announcing prize winners.

The newest business in town, i scream Ice Cream Shop, at its charming, renovated 9838 Main Street location, celebrated the day with its deliciously refreshing and colourful “Parliament Chill” special treat, available only on Canada Day. The rich vanilla ice cream and fresh strawberry special made for a very Canadian colour scheme and a yummy combination.

Crystany’s Brasserie (the first certified gluten-free restaurant in Annapolis Valley), featured a fabulous,  festive menu and a special evening performance by renowned harpist and recording artist, Johanne McInnis. With its beautiful, cosy interior and fabulous second-storey patio terrace offering a scenic view of the Habitant River and lush countryside, Crystany’s attracted many delighted diners to its 9848 Main Street address.

Canning Library News

Canning Village Library and Heritage Centre

Due to high heating costs, the Library will remain closed until May 1, 2015. Because the weather has been so poor throughout March and we’re staffed entirely by volunteers,  it has been difficult covering the library hours.

On a similar note, the Library committee is actively seeking donations to cover our monthly expenses. If you’re able to make a donation, please check out the Gazette and fill in your information. Charitable donation receipts will be issued for your tax purposes. Make your cheque payable to: Fieldwood Heritage Society, marked Canning Library & Heritage Centre.

We are planning to reopen the Library Friday, May 1st at 5 PM. The hours will be Tuesday and Thursday 2 – 5 PM, Friday 5 – 7:30 PM, and Sat 10 AM – 1 PM.

Renaming of the Library to The Merritt Gibson Memorial Library will be celebrated on May 9th, 2015, as well as commemorating the 20th anniversary of the opening of our  beloved community Library. Hope to see you there!
